Theme of the Conference

Covid-19 has challenged the post-World War II global order in ways that few had imagined. The ravages of this pandemic are having far-reaching implications for the international order, as well as highlighting existing structures of inequality within and between nations. All this is happening at a time when populism, nationalism and isolationism are on the rise. What will these developments and the intensification of US-China rivalry mean for the future of Asia and what place will international law have in that future? How well have our established and emerging institutions of global governance responded to the challenges arising from the pandemic and States’ responses to it? The conference will explore the role of international law in managing the challenges faced by post-pandemic Asia and seeks to identify and address key legal issues relating to the place of international law in the future of Asia.
